Mass Save®'s Home Energy Services Program

Mass Save® is an initiative of Massachusetts’ gas and electric utilities focused on providing energy efficiency services to residents and businesses. Mass Save® works closely with Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources to idenitfy and select the most effective energy efficiency services and incentives to provide to utility customers.

How it is funded?

Mass Save® was established as a result of an energy efficiency state legislation, passed in 2008. It is funded, in part, by the mandatory charge for all consumers. To know how much you pay monthly into this fund, look for “Energy Efficiency Chg” line on your electric bill.

What service/incentives are available?

1. No-cost Home Energy Assessment. The Home Energy Assessment is a tool to allow you to make the most informed decisions regarding your home and energy usage. You are not obligated to pursue any recommendations following the assessment. The assessment includes a 1.5 – 2.5 hour visit from a  specialist who will inspect your home and will produce a customized Home Energy Assessment Report summarizing:

a) Assessment summary including Energy Use breakdown of your home;

b) List of Energy Efficient measures installed as part of the visit (at no cost to you), which may include energy efficient light bulbs, advanced 'smart' power strips (reducing standby power loss), programmable thermostats, faucet aerators and low-flow showerheads (to reduce water usage), and more, as fit for your home's needs.

c) Energy Efficiency Recommendations (no-obligation) that include air-sealing/weather-stripping (at $0 cost to the home-owner) as well as weatherization measures, such as blown-in insulation in your attic and walls.

2. No-cost targeted air-sealing and incentives for weatherization work:  Mass Save® will cover 75% up to $2,000 per year per dwelling for this work. You can also split large phases of weatherization work into several years. More information is available ast and in "A Worcester resident decision guide to free Home Energy Assessment and Weatherization Incentives through Mass Save®".
